Support the TYKS Foundation

Donations and wills are a vital part of financing our operations. Even a small amount offers a major helping hand to research. It enables the development of better care for patients in the future.

Good to know about your will

A will is a document that you can use to determine how your property or part of it will be distributed after you have passed away. It is a good idea to share your wishes in good time.

Without a will

  • Your direct descendants inherit all your property.
  • The widow/widower has the right of possession of the dwelling and normal movable property. Your common-law partner will not inherit your property.
  • If there are no close relatives (children, parents, siblings, grandparents, uncles or aunts) or will, the estate will pass to the state.
  • Your cousins will not inherit your property.
  • Heirs under the Code of Inheritance pay inheritance tax on their inheritance, unlike non-profit institutions.
  • The direct descendants have a lawful share, which means that they will inherit half of your property even if a will exists.

With a will

  • You express what you want to do with your property. When you want to support something that is important to you after your passing, it is a good idea to make a will. If you wish, you may allocate a donation to a specific field of research, for example.
  • For the sake of clarity, it is always a good idea to give your will to a lawyer familiar with succession cases for reviewing or draw it up with a lawyer from the beginning.
  • Last will: During your lifetime, you can change or cancel your will. The latest document will be valid.
  • The TYKS Foundation, i.e., the Turku University Hospital Education and Research Foundation, must be indicated as the beneficiary in wills to the TYKS Foundation.
